How successful do you want to be? This may sound like a rhetorical question, but in my 25+ years of consulting experience, I have learned that authentic success, that type of success measured in the deep satisfaction of the human spirit, something noble and deep, is truly rare.
There are countless reasons why people substitute apparent success for authentic success. Whatever the reasons, they are governed by what I term the Law of Substitution and Distraction.
Some substitute money for success. Others substitute pleasure. Still, others substitute luxury. While others substitute education, power, position, prestige, and so forth, many others enroll in classes, buy books and tapes and craft wonderful libraries about every aspect of success imaginable. Appealing as these things are to many of us, they are not where true success is to be found. Indeed, for many people, these external rewards are more distractions of the heart than indicators of success. All of these may be measures of achievement, this is true, but in themselves they fail to express the deep satisfaction of the human spirit indicative of authentic success.
Over the years, I have been told by more than a few experts that success means nothing more than "needs satisfaction." Superficially, this has a nice ring to it, but what happens if your apparent needs lead you astray? People have been known to shoot themselves in their proverbial feet.
Down deep where we must live with ourselves, true success can be recognized as the vindication of one's legacy to the human spirit. It emerges from the in-depth, noble, and grand vision to live a fully human life not measured in mere material possessions.

The Newkirk Group
The Newkirk Group is a softskills coaching team. Paradoxically, building softskills is harder than building hardskills. Rather than beginning our coaching programs by focusing on what successful people do, we first focus on the personal dimension that makes successful people successful and then highlight what they do. We are "transformation" oriented. We maintain that success is something you are, or unfortunately, who you are not.
We begin by coaching clients on the nature of the successful person and then move to the actions that are indicative of success, or the content of success. In a nutshell, you could say that we focus on "becoming" and "being" successful more than on the activities engaged in by successful people. We understand that to be a successful person requires you to be a certain type of person as a prerequisite to success. A personal framework of success has to exist before success becomes a reality.
Our Group consists of several outstanding coaches who know a lot about the authentic success journey. We offer coaching programs in the core ingredients of "becoming" and "being" a successful person: self-mastery, communication skills, innovation, life change skills and career exploration, athletic discipline, self-management, and so forth. Our goal is to enable clients to enlarge their range of intellectual, emotional, and behavioral capabilities in building a richer framework for being successful persons.

Our Coaching Approach
While consultants bring badly needed skills to an organization, coaches ernable clients to uncover these skills for themselves. Fundamentally, coaching and consulting are polar opposites. Coaching is a uniquely personal activity in which one size does not fit all. When done correctly, coaching enables clients to skillfully and powerfully get beyond the personal sticking points that negatively impact their committed success journey. While training enables clients to attain and master core competencies, coaching enables clients to liberate their hidden strengths and talents. While training is about knowledge transfer, coaching is about personal discovery and development.
Understanding this complex maze of personal dynamics, we employ an iterative three cycle process consisting of "tell, show, and watch over." We begin the process by assisting the client in developing a problem resolution agenda. Here the client identifies one or two important issues that need resolution. We then work with the client as facilitators of problem resolution and agents in the development of enduring change.

Although each client brings a unique character to a wide range of problems, these problems often share some common aspect that makes them paradoxically both different and similar to other problems. As coaches, we assist clients in identifying, managing, and overcoming painful strategic mistakes such as burnout, selling yourself short, and making bad impressions. We also assist clients in developing much more than core competencies. For example, we enable clients to:
